The 9 cap is available at your local GM dealer. Ask for AC Delco type RC32 part and a 10 cap is available at most autoparts store under a Stant part number , if they don’t have it, have them order it for you. The lower pressure rated caps are not carried by the store much but they are available. Wright One item that makes the radiator leak is using the wrong Pressure Cap. Should be 9 pounds no greater than 10 pounds. Therefore I use a 7 pound cap for many years. Also your coach is running much Many fan clutches do not work properly
Edelbrock Performer Carburetors 1406
One end of the spring is anchored to the plastic cap and the other end of the spring is attached to the choke shaft. The cap can thus be rotated to open or close the choke. The spring is a special material called ‘bi-metal’. It is made of two metal alloys that are bonded to each other and have widely different thermal expansion values. All metals expand when they are heated and these two metals expand at different rates so as the spring gets hot, it tends to unwind as one surface gets longer than the other.
When the spring cools, it winds back.
If you have a mechanical distributor have it adjusted for a low limit with plenty of initial advance.
Be sure to save the illustrations separately. The opinions expressed here are my experiences, and your experiences may vary. I don’t put myself forward as the world’s leading expert on Holleys, but I do have some helpful ideas. In some cases, I may not be able to answer specific questions, but I’ll do my best. I know very little about other brands of carburetors and have no information about them, only general operating principles.
I have NO experience with any type of supercharger or turbocharger, so please don’t ask me anything about your blower or turbo applications. The following few paragraphs is a set of rules I had to create because people were emailing me without enough information or asking really stupid questions that I had no way to answer. The rules didn’t just happen overnight, nor were they something I wanted to do.
But I kept getting questions from people who didn’t do any reading or they asked a question I didn’t have any way to answer. Look at the rules, and think about the stupid question that I got asked 50 times, and you’ll understand why I had to write them.

In a squarebore, the bores are closer to the same size, though, in some squarebore carbs, like cfm Holleys, the primaries may be noticeably smaller than the secondaries. However, even then the bores share the same centerline. Many aftermarket intakes, such as mine, and the Edelbrock Performer and RPM, etc, are “dual pattern” intakes the area where the carb bolts on looks like a butterfly.
Incidentally, the conversion made my engine run leaner.
Quadrajet Tuning Instructions A2: Perform all the following steps before you put any fuel into the carburetor! Inspect carburetor for accidental shipping damage. Call us immediately if something does not look right. Make sure you have the correct length carburetor studs or bolts with proper nuts and washers. Install the correct carburetor base gasket. Hand tighten the nuts or bolts in an alternating pattern from the corner to the opposite corner.
Tighten bolts to 12 foot pounds. Operate the throttle linkage through its fill range and check for interference at the linkage. Check for interference at the accelerator pump linkage. Hook up the throttle linkage and adjust for full throttle with someone pressing the gas pedal. Install a good throttle return spring. Make certain that it positively closes the throttle. Have someone operate the gas pedal while you verify full throttle adjustment at the carburetor.

In trying to get the headlight door motors, I ended up taking out the whole damn front end – grill, bumper, etc. There was just no easy way to get to the door motors. I probably removed 50 bolts out of the front of the thing. Eventually I had half the car in the back of the truck just to get a couple pieces of trim and the headlight door motors, but there’s nothing wrong with a few spare parts.
So I only had them replace the rear mufflers.
This is what the secondary accelerator pump does on a double pumper Holley. So when the engine bogs, the AV closes until the engine is pulling hard enough to open the AV again- then another bog, et cetera. But on many engines- when properly adjusted- the AV never fully opens. However, if the AV is adjusted so the spring pressure is too light, it can open too much, too soon. The AV shouldn’t open when you jazz the throttle in Park. Also, there shouldn’t be a noticeable transition into the secondaries.
Many guys think the carb should “bang” into the secondaries, but what’s happening is a bog when the secondaries open, followed by the engine ‘catching up’ to the carb- this gives the impression of acceleration. A timing slip will show otherwise.
Recycler really works for parts! All i have to say is I’ve never been beaten by a ford or a rice burner! Greg Hoffart has a nice little ’68 Chevelle thatt he would like some advice on. I am just in the process of putting the pieces together. The car fiberglass front fenders and a Harwood hood. It has posi.
So it went off to Hayes, who found a broken connector on a wiring harness causing the alternator problem, but the skipping and pinging was internal to the engine so it went back to Engine Exchange.
From Pontiac powered car. Should be the same Fits non air car. Some minor surface rust. For V8 cars. Has splits on upper bolt holes. Has 2 broken mounts. Email for extra images.
Mike Ervin To start this off, I just wanted to tell a little bit about the stock Q-jet that came on my truck C When the engine is cold, more fuel is needed for transition from idle to part-throttle. When the engine is warm, less fuel is required. Dual capacity pump solenoid plug on top right front of carb is activated by coolant temperature sensor sensor in thermostat housing.
At degrees pump solenoid energizes, dual capacity pump valve opens and pump capacity reduces by about one-half. I had performed some of the mods in this article on my stock carb.
That was up to hp W for — hp kW for the optional W72 engine available on state cars — but cars bound for California, which had stricter emissions standards, were limited to the Oldsmobile cu.
We are the third owners and have had this wonderful GMC for 17 years. It has always been garaged and is in excellent condition. Solid walnut cabinets, roof air conditioning and 6kw Onan generator. Cared for as a family member. Always garaged and continuously maintained and upgraded, it is in excellent condition. Solid walnut cabinets, 2 roof air conditioners and 6kw Onan generator.
Engine and transmission are strong trans overhauled at 62, The coach has had many mechanical upgrades and comes with a variety of spare parts. It needs cosmetic interior and exterior work but has great potential. Some of the upgrades include: Onan generator has not been used so I cannot attest to it’s condition, the air suspension system is in need of repair or upgrade, newer engine battery, coach battery needs to be replaced.
For additional information and upgrades.
And over a fairly wide range of RPM and performance. The present iron and aluminum Pontiac intakes are functionally a direct copy of the Super Duty intake. The mounting is different, but the runner and plenum designs are essentially identical. So they are excellent intakes — probably the best of any production passenger car. The larger engines must move more air, so may not run as effeciently at higher RPM as do the smaller engines with identical intakes.
I’ve tweaked it a few times and done the best I could, but I think my hood and passenger door need re-hanging and my front bumper is a bit bent.
Three different types of numbering systems are found on Carter produced carburetors. Thus in the example C5VF-A, the carburetor would have been the first application for Lincoln in the year It is extremely doubtful that any of the single, double, or early triple digit tags will appear; as they were produced before and were constructed of red cardboard. The metal tag appeared about with tag numbers of about s. The 4 digit tag appeared in , and was continued on until the end. The letter S and following letters, when present, have caused much speculation mostly incorrect.
Carter used the suffix letter S to denote assembly. Since all carburetors are composed of multiple parts, the letter S was appended to all carburetors using the traditional numbering system i. A second change would have the letter A replaced by the letter B i. The highest engineering change of which I am aware is 4 i. Holley Marvel Updraft — brass bowl — must be identified from pictures of actual linkage and internal specifications no identification numbers Updraft — diecast bowl — an identification number is stamped in tiny numbers on the underside of the bowl, or on the edge of the carburetor mounting flange.
That individuality combined with corporate policies limiting maximum displacement for different body styles to produce a multitude of different engines of very similar capacities and outputs. By , for instance, Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac each offered a cu. While Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Buick each had distinct small-block and big-block V8 engine lines, Pontiac really had only one.
The diaphragm housing with the removable top is highly recommended.
At wide open throttle, Holley’s work very well, and this is what they are designed to do best.
